Body brushing to beat cellulite

Cellulite does not discriminate whether you’re large or thin. We all have it and would love to get rid of it. The beauty industry makes a fortune from women buying anti cellulite creams that frankly rarely live up to their claims.

There is another solution, body brushing. It’s cheap and has many positive benefits. Celebrities like Davina McCall and Elle ‘the body’ Macpherson swear by it.

The skin is the largest organ of the body and is often referred to as the third kidney due to its action in the elimination process. Your skin excretes over one pound of waste every day.  Regular body brushing helps stimulate circulation and increases lymphatic drainage. It breaks down fatty deposits enhancing the texture of your skin and helping dimples appear less noticeable.

How to body brush

  • Buy a long handle natural bristle brush you can get them here for about £5
  • The best time to body brush is first thing in the morning before your shower or bath
  • Keep the brush dry and only use on dry skin.
  • Do not use the body brush on your face and avoid sensitive areas such as rashes, cuts or wounds.
  • Brush towards the heart, starting from the soles of the feet and working upwards

LEGS

  • Begin with the sole of your right foot, using firm strokes to cover the sole several times before brushing the top of your foot and up over your ankle.
  • Move onto your lower leg (do the whole area from your ankle to your knee) before brushing from your knee to the top of your thigh.
  • Next brush your buttock area to your waist
  • Repeat the process with your left leg (starting from the sole of your foot)

TORSO & ARMS

  • Start at the top of your buttocks and brush upwards over the whole of your back to your shoulders.
  • Brush your right arm starting from the palm of your hand, then the back of your hand before brushing from your wrist up to your elbow and then your upper arm towards your shoulder.
  • Repeat with your left arm, starting at the palm of your hand.
  • Very gently brush your abdomen in a clockwise circle, covering the area very gently several times.
  • Brush your chest area very gently, always working towards your heart and stopping if it feels uncomfortable
  • After you’ve showered moisturise your skin with a natural chemical free body lotion like Weleda’s

It can take a few weeks to notice any changes, so be patient and don’t give up. Body brushing is no miracle cure but it can really help the tone of your skin. I’ve definitely noticed a difference.

Cellulite busting tips

To really combat cellulite look at your diet, cut your fat and sugar intake. Alcohol and caffeine are also triggers. Increase the fibre in your diet and your water intake to help your body flush toxins out.

In the hierarchy of fat storage, fatty tissue is low man on the totem pole. In other words, when the physique needs fuel, it looks to other fat stores long before it bothers with excess fat stores near the pores and skin. That means that it could be difficult to reduce cellulite, even in the best of circumstances. Often, although, circumstances aren’t that great. In truth, many people’s bodies keep packing on excess fat and don’t eat into any fat stores at all.

One of the primary brings about of cellulite isn’t drinking enough amounts of drinking water. Dehydration causes your body to store as much water as it can just beneath the skin. When this phenomenon occurs with consistency, people start noticing cellulite.
