Skincare for winter

With the season undeniably changing it won’t be long before your skin is crying out for a little TLC.  As summer comes to an end, plummeting temperatures and central heating can wreak havoc with our skin so here at mumzine, we have pulled together a few of our favourite organic or natural treats for your skin to get you through those autumn/winter months…brrrrrrr…

Weleda’s Skin Food£6.95 (75ml)

This multi-tasking and heavily praised 100% organic ‘Skin Food’ has been around since 1926. A really replenishing skin repair cream for dry patches (on the face and body), it can be used as a protective cream in harsh weather and is excellent for anyone regularly exposing their skin to the elements. Depending on your skin type it maybe too rich to use everyday but a good one to keep handy for an emergency.  Skin food is often cited by celebs as their must have including Rihanna, Helena Christensen, Angela Lindvall, Kerry Washington, Claudia Barila, Joss Stone, Brooke Shields, Lili Taylors and women all over the world (including moi).

John Masters Organic Lip Balm – £6

Mumzine favourite and winner with the celebs, John Masters products are a delight to be-hold.  And although its just a lip balm this has won high acclaim and many awards in this category (including the Green Beauty Bible Awards Winner).  It soothes, moisturises and invigorates using a powerful combo of organic ingredients including antioxidant lemon and lime, tangerine, moisturising olive, jojoba and borage oil (the highest source of GLA)

Burts Bees Orange Essence Facial Cleanser – £11 (125ml) – Available nationwide or at Ethical Supermarket

A friend first recommended this and I have not looked back.  If you are prone to dry skin or want to give your skin some extra TLC in the winter months then this cleanser could be for you.  With orange oil to cleanse and purify, and olive oil and aloe vera to soothe, moisturise and condition, this formula is perfect for refreshing, hydrating cleansing.  This product will leave your skin perfectly clean without the drying sensation often associated with cleansers.

Melvita Argan Oil – £16 (50ml) – available online

Sometimes you just need to keep it simple, and Melvita Argan oil is a great example of doing just  that.  Available in 2 sizes for extra savings, Melvita have taken the natural skincare market by storm.  They have made high quality organic skincare products totally accessible both in terms of price and brand.  Argan Oil is super rich in essential fatty acids, it is an effective treatment for dry or sensitive skin boosting moisture levels and naturally helping skin repair.

Found on the Morrocan coast, the Argan tree is a ‘beauty secret’ for Berber women, the oil is made from un-roasted argan kernels; it is also traditionally used for massaging joints and for nail and hair care.

Weleda Baby Calendula Weather Protection Cream – £5.50

Although this is marketed as a product for babies it is also ideal to protect the skin of adults, especially those with sensitive skin.

It will protect your baby’s facial skin from the effects of the cold, wind and harsh weather.  Made with pure beeswax and gentle lanolin form a natural protective layer without impairing the skin’s natural functions.  Almond oil is great for caring for dry skin, and calendula and organic chamomile flowers help soothe the skin.  Calendula is renowned for its soothing properties and can be used to help many skin irritations.

Liz Earle Intensive Nourishing Treatment- £12

Liz Earle does some lovley products and this hydrating mask could give your skin a much needed boost when the winter takes hold, containing Borage oil, St Johns Wort Oil, Shea Butter, Comfrey Extract and Geranium Essential Oil will help to replenish, calm, condition and moisturise skin.
