5 Great tips for leftovers

Food prices are increasing and more families are trying to shop on a tightened budget. Make what you buy last longer with these 5  food freezing tips.

Creme Fraiche – use as a marinade to tenderise meat. Add some spices like cumin, coriander, paprika, curry powder spread over meat for a few hours or better still overnight.

Fresh herbs  - if you have any leftover herbs and you know you’re not likely to use them again the same week don’t leave them to go off or throw them out. Chop them up and spoon into an ice cube tray, fill with water and freeze. You can transfer them into a freezer bag and add to stews, soups, sauces and curries.

Ginger  - another good one to freeze. Cut into thick slices and put in a freezer bag. You can grate the slices directly from frozen and add to your recipe.

Wine – when does that ever get leftover I hear you say. On the odd occasion it does freeze in ice cube trays and use later for casseroles, stews and gravies.

Bread – whizz up stale bread into breadcrumbs (I use my coffee grinder for this). Transfer to a freezer bag and use to bind burgers or add some herbs and use as a coating for meat.
