Natural remedies for travel sickness

1 Comment 05 September 2011

I have just got back from a holiday in France and experienced some of the worst sea sickness of my life.  I was never great with bumpy ferry rides as a child but this was something else and left both me and my daughter clutching onto those nasty paper  bags for the full 4-hour duration. [...]

Zine loved Wilderness Festival

No Comments 28 August 2011

This year we went to the first ever Wilderness Festival in Oxfordshire and we loved it. If you are sceptical about how much fun camping in the UK and going to Festival is with little children then I can reassure you that it can actually be a laugh, relaxing and brilliant for the kids. I did have to do something which I am not very good at, which is to totally let go of any sense of kids time, adult time, day/night and just let the kids hang out with us and go to bed when they passed out. Historically I have always cleared my head by running, but the problem is that the adrenaline often makes me feel even more pumped up. So I have been trying to do more yoga and reading (not quite doing yet) about meditation. Since doing a bit of reading I have been amazed at the positive results found not just anecdotally but through scientific research.

The European Medicine Agency watchdog say young people should not take flu vaccine

No Comments 23 July 2011

The European Medicine Agency have announced that the flu vaccine, Pandemrix given to millions of Britons as recently as a few months ago will no longer be used on the under-20s (unless they are at risk of contracting swine flu). Recent studies showed that young people who were given the vaccine were at increased risk of developing narcolepsy (causing sufferers to fall asleep unexpectedly).

Apples top list for pesticide contamination

No Comments 13 June 2011

I have often wondered which fruit and vegetables take the biggest hit when it comes to pesticides and which fruit and veg is the most important to buy organic. Environmental Working Group (EWG), a public health advocacy group has released its 7th annual report which analyses USA government data on 53 fruits and vegetables and identifies which have the most and least pesticides after washing and peeling. Although this is USA research, it gives a good indicator to pesticide loads in non-organic fruit and vegetables generally.
