Zine loves: Summerland’s Tutu Kits

3 Comments 13 January 2011

We are lovin' these inspired tu tu costume kits created by Ruth Douglas of Summerland. There are fabulous colour combinations and 6 different themed kits to choose from. Personal faves are the Mermaid and Pirate. Inside the kit you'll find everything you need to create your themed tutu, matching head dress and bracelet. Don't worry if you're a stranger to the sewing machine as these kits are completely 'no sew'. Could it get any better? Not for me.

Just before Christmas '10, Booktrust was told that it was losing all of its £13 million Government funding for schemes in England from April. Booktrust has introduced thousands of children to the pleasures and benefits of reading and given families an enjoyable way to interact – a welcome alternative to toys and television. The charity, operating since 1992 provides Bookstart packs to parents when their babies are first born and then further books at later stages in their development. Its co-founder, Wendy Cooling, was awarded the MBE in 2008 for services to children's literacy.

1 Comment 30 May 2010

Whilst on holiday I was gobsmacked by the sight of children watching films on portable DVD players whilst eating dinner with their parents. Meal times are tough for most parents with young children, we had many a screaming tantrum over the buffets endless treats, but this is crazy. I saw one child aged about 5 or 6 with a dummy in and the DVD player on. How's that for a message of be seen but not heard?

Travelling with children can be stressful. They get bored so quickly and hate being confined. Last year we drove to the South of France which surprisingly went quite well considering the air con packed up on us a week before we left. The French motorway system is brilliant they have these places to stop called Aires, each one is different but they all have picnic tables, toilets, space for the kids to just run around and some even have mini playgrounds. Can't understand why we haven't got something like that here.
