No Comments 21 April 2010

Red, sore and blistery bottoms can be incredibly uncomfortable for little ones and once the dreaded nappy rash appears it can take a while to heal. Teething tends to be time when it can be problematic, my first daughter suffered terribly from it whilst in cloth nappies. The most used and commonly known nappy cream is Sudocrem which lists liquid parrafin as one of its many ingredients. Liquid parrafin is also used in lanterns and the production of paints, dyes, pigments, wax, polythene, and insecticides and is considered to be a carcinogen or cancer causing agent.

Postnatal depression, treated naturally

One of the most memorable things my midwife told me was that three days after giving birth, the pregnancy hormone feast drops suddenly into a hormone famine. It's common for women to feel low and tearful at this time. She was spot on, I literally cried rivers come day four. There was nothing I could put my finger on exactly after either of my births. It is known as the 'baby blues', and generally passes after a few days. Most cases of PND start within a

Breastfeeding children 'does not make them more intelligent'

Puuulleeeaseee! What are these people on? Women breastfeed their babies because it is what is considered nutritionally best, not because they want them to 'brainy'. Whether you breastfed or not I'm not sure how this story is helpful or supportive.

Kings College Hospital claim that a disproportionate number of the babies it delivered suffered damage during the birth. The Albany group has long been praised for being a brilliant example of NHS community midwives working in an area of high deprivation (Peckham, South London).

Pregnant and want to know which books to buy?

Most mums-to-be feel confused at the number of books out there to help you get to grips with being pregnant so we asked the UK's first independent midwife, Melody Weig, of Birthrites to give us her top reads. NB: We know this is a long list so we would suggest just buying a few and hitting the library to avoid getting a fat bill. There are also lots of these available second hand books through amazon to soften the blow.
