We have just had a bumper crop of the much maligned turnip, which according to reports is making a comeback for cash strapped families looking for a cheap and versatile veg to boost supper time. It's great for bulking up soups, casseroles and stews but can also be delicious all on its own.

Continue ReadingResearch commissioned by Greenpeace International has revealed that clothing and some fabric-based shoes sold by major clothing brands are manufactured using nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEs). NPEs subsequently break down to form toxic nonylphenol (NP). According to the report, Nonylphenol is a persistent chemical with hormone-disrupting properties that builds up in the food chain, and is hazardous even at very low levels.

The advent of MRSA and swine flue seem to have created a huge market for anti bacterial products. The vast majority of high street anti bacterial products contain chemical triclosan. Now the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is reviewing the safety of triclosan, a not only widely used antibacterial agent found in soap, but also toothpaste and a range of other consumer products. Triclosan is an ingredient in a growing list of products, including toys, latex paint, clothing, soaps, and cosmetics, to inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungi and mildew.
