What the world eats in pictures

This collection of images is taken from the book 'Hungry Planet: What the World Eats' by Peter Menzel and Faith D'Aluisio and shows how much processed food has taken over many nations meal-times as well as the huge difference in the volume of food we consume. Although we already know a lot of this these images really do tell a thousand words. The portraits feature pictures of each family with their weekly shop.

This week, Corporate Accountability International (CAI), a nonprofit organisation that fights corporate abuses (representing a group of 550 healthcare workers) launched a campaign appealing to McDonalds to retire Ronald and appealing for people across the globe to join forces and stop McDonalds marketing junk food to children using methods such as toys and the clown. Despite a robust protest from McDonalds CEO "Ronald McDonald is going nowhere. As the face of Ronald McDonald House Charities, Ronald is an ambassador for good and delivers important messages to kids on safety, literacy and balanced, active lifestyles."

8 in 10 parents want junk food banned in nurseries

Research from Soil Association's Better Nursery Food Now campaign also revealed that nine out of 10 (89%) parents wanted to see legally enforceable rules for the nutritional standards of food in nurseries. 95% off parents said they wanted to ban additives linked to behavioural problems or health issues in nursery food and almost all parents wanted compulsory nutrition and cookery training for nursery staff preparing and serving food.
