Zine loved Wilderness Festival

No Comments 28 August 2011

This year we went to the first ever Wilderness Festival in Oxfordshire and we loved it. If you are sceptical about how much fun camping in the UK and going to Festival is with little children then I can reassure you that it can actually be a laugh, relaxing and brilliant for the kids. I did have to do something which I am not very good at, which is to totally let go of any sense of kids time, adult time, day/night and just let the kids hang out with us and go to bed when they passed out. Once I relaxed into this it was actually really nice.

Benefits of meditation

No Comments 05 August 2011

I am naturally a fairly manic person, always on the go and find it quite hard to do nothing and just chill. For most of my life this hasn't been a problem but as time ticks I am increasingly feeling like I need to get better at being still. Historically I have always cleared my head by running, but the problem is that the adrenaline often makes me feel even more pumped up. So I have been trying to do more yoga and reading (not quite doing yet) about meditation. Since doing a bit of reading I have been amazed at the positive results found not just anecdotally but through scientific research.

Zine loves: Bobble water bottles

Until I clocked this I didnt think anyone had quite cracked that bottle water/tap water debate. There are lots of BPA free bottles on the market but if you are out and about, you have to take tap water and accept that you may get a few nasties along the way. Or you just keep buying bottles of water which is a big expense and you end up chucking the bottles.

YUM! PIMMS ICE LOLLYS

It's Wimbledon finals and what better way to celebrate than than by ambushing the kids ice lolly molds and making some naughty but very nice pimms ice lollies. I've seen a few recipes but my recommendation is to keep it simple and make the Pimms just how you like it and what in the freezer. if you are not a tennis fan than they will work just as well with a summer BBQ.

I discovered the beautiful marriage of beetroot and chocolate a while ago when I found a remarkable recipe in my vegetable box. I've been meaning to post it for a while but have been distracted with other stuff but I highly recommend it! You cant really taste the beetroot but it adds moistness, richness and a rube tinge.

Natural remedies for head lice

No Comments 20 March 2011

Arg - my daughter is in her first year of primary school and has just come home with a letter announcing that the whole school is teeming with the dreaded head lice. In an attempt to avoid the highly chemical solutions used when I was a child I have done some research and come up with a selection of natural alternatives. Lice are tiny insects commonly found living on the scalp and within the hair. The condition is very common among young children. Head lice can be transmittable and spreads by sharing combs, hairbrushes, caps, hats and hair accessories.
